Math and science play a crucial role preparing students for success in the global information economy, even for those choosing careers not directly related to those fields.

Study of math and science teaches critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.  With the vast majority of family-wage jobs requiring additional education beyond high school, these skills provide a critical foundation for this additional education and ultimately for those jobs. Research shows that the highest level of math taken by students in high school is the greatest predictor of their chances to earn a bachelor's degree, regardless of race, background or income.

Additionally, young people will need a background in math and science to be participating and contributing members of a society that will grapple with complex issues such as global warming, alternative energy sources, medical research and personal privacy in an information age.
