The Microsoft Math Partnership (MMP) works to improve student academic performance in math.

Through partnerships with 8 area school districts and the Puget Sound Educational Service District, the program provides support to schools to help students become critical thinkers and proficient in mathematical skills and concepts including numeracy, algebra, statistics and problem solving.

The MMP strategy calls for significant improvement in the teaching of mathematics and increased rigor in middle school math and science education. Our ultimate objective is to improve student participation and achievement in secondary and post-secondary math, science and technology studies. Our primary performance metric toward that goal is to build students' algebraic proficiency in middle school.

We've approached the work in a collaborative way working in direct partnership with school districts, policy organizations, businesses and governments.

Based on the recommendation of participating school district superintendents, Microsoft's initial investments of time and money are focused on: advocating for key policy changes, building public awareness of the crisis in math education and providing professional development for teachers. The work is also guided by a national education research group (American Institutes for Research) and is being evaluated by a local independent research group (Baker Evaluation Research Consulting)
