The single most important factor in student learning is the quality of instruction students receive in their classrooms.
Recognizing this, the Microsoft Math Partnership has provided partnership schools with math coaches and supported the development of professional learning communities to install a culture of trust, accountability and empowerment.
- The partnership provides each school with a half-time dedicated math coach that works directly with the school's math teachers. The coach serves as a trusted, professional mentor for teachers wanting to improve their teaching, learn new strategies or help struggling students.
- These coaches from across the districts meet monthly to further their own professional development and to share best practices.
- The partnership also provides direct professional development to teachers in specific areas such as special education, English language learners, mathematical content, etc.
